Application Process

& Grant Application Forms

Submission deadlines

Our Trustees meet three times a year to consider grant applications.

Fully completed applications received by:

    • 1st February will be considered in March.
    • 1st June will be considered in July.
    • 1st October will be considered in November.

We must also have received a reply from your referees by 9th February, 9th June or 9th October.

After you have applied for a grant

  • We will email you to tell you what happens next. We may decline your application if it is not fully completed, so please fully answer all the questions on your application form.
  • We will email your referees to ask questions about you and your grant request.
  • We can only consider your grant application if your referees reply to our email by the deadline date: either 9th February, 9th June or 9th October.  It is your responsibility as the applicant to follow up with your referees and check that they have sent us their reference before the deadline, please.
  • After our meeting, we will email to let you know the Trustees’ decision. The Trustees’ decision is final.

If you are awarded a grant

  • After our meeting, we will email you by the end of that month and ask you to complete some online forms so that we can arrange for your grant to be paid by bank transfer.
  • Wherever possible, grants are paid directly to the relevant school, college, university or supplier.
  • Please tell us how the grant has helped you by sending feedback. Future grant applications from both individuals and groups/charities may be declined if you have previously received a grant but not provided feedback.

Some of the above procedures are to satisfy The Charity Commission regulations.

Apply for a grant

Your referees

The Individual Grant Application form asks you to give the names and email addresses of two referees to support your grant request:

1. Your first referee must be the young person’s school, college or university teacher.

(If the young person is not on a school roll or is receiving Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS), your first referee must be an educational professional within your local Council (e.g. the Elective Home Education team or EHCP team at Devon County Council). If the young person is over 18 and no longer in education, your first referee must be the young person’s most recent teacher.)

2. Your second referee must know the young person in a professional capacity.

For example, the young person’s SENDCo, support worker, sports coach, dance/music tutor, cubs/brownies leader, employer, clergy etc.

The Group Grant Application form asks you to provide one referee to support your application. This should be a professional person who is independent of your group.
