About us

The Board of The Devon Educational Trust consists of up to nine trustees:
Two are appointed by Devon County Council
One by the University of Exeter
and the remaining are nominated by the Trustees themselves

The trust was set up in November 1988 by Devon County Council and Claude Pike who helped to get the trust  established.

Our purposes are stated in our Constitution as:

To act as a resource for young people up to the age of 25 whose normal place of residence is within the County of Devon by providing financial assistance as a means of:

  • Advancing in life and helping young people by developing their skills, capacities and capabilities, to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals;
  • Advancing education;
  • Providing recreational and leisure time activity in the interests of social welfare for people living in the area of benefit who have need by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, poverty or social and economic circumstances with a view to improving the conditions of life of such persons.   

In the period up to 2013 the Trust made grants of approximately £750,000 to over 5500 individuals and groups.

The Devon Educational Trust is registered with the Charity Commission as a ‘Charitable Incorporated Organisation’  – Registration Number 1157674
